The Impact of Employer Branding on Recruitment
In
today’s we have competitive job market organizations and they use employer branding
as a strategy to attract and retain the top talented employees. The term Employer
branding refers to the image and reputation of an organization as an employer
to their name. A strong employer brand will help organizations stand out among
competitors and will enhance their ability to engage with the candidates.
What
is Employer Branding?
Employer
branding is an activity where principles of marketing, in particular, the “science
of branding”, are applied to HR activities in relation to current and potential
employees (Edward, 2010).
Employer
Branding may be important to,
1.
Attracting Top-Talented Employees - A reputed employer brand may significantly affect
job seekers' perceptions. Candidates often search for the reputation of their
employers before applying for a job. A strong brand can attract the highest quality
and the most experienced and qualified. This may influence to increase of the
organization’s values and culture. A study done by LinkedIn (2016) revealed from
their survey that over 75% of job seekers consider the employer’s brand before
they apply for a job.
2.
Improving Employee Engagement - A well-defined employer brand may improve employee
engagement and satisfaction. Employees may be more likely to feel motivated
and committed in their roles when they identify the employer brand and its value.
This approach may save the employee belonging and pride and it will contribute
to higher retention rates.
3.
Reducing Recruitment Costs - When an employer brand has a positive brand
candidates may be more prone to apply for the jobs and the organization
may not need to put an effort into the advertising. So, this will reduce the
cost of recruitment. A blog on a study carried out by the Recruitment
Marketing Agency revealed that organizations with a positive and strong employer
brand will reduce the cost-per-hire by 50%.
How
to Build a Strong Employer Brand?
1.
Using of Employee Value Proposition (EVP) – This refers to what the
organization offers to their employees for their skills, capabilities, and
experiences.
2.
Using social media - Today’s social media platforms provide a strong medium for
the employer to showcase their brands. Organizations can share their highlights
with these media by addressing their culture and values.
3.
Improving the Motivators of the Employees - Employees are the powerful representatives
of the employer brands. Increasing their satisfaction will automatically
improve the brand since they will share their thoughts and experiences.
4.
Investing for Employee Development – The employer image will be significantly
enhanced if an organization prioritizes its employee development and well-being
by providing opportunities for career growth and providing a positive
work-life balance environment.
The
story of the success of the Unilever Brand
In
2010, Unilever launched the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP),
focusing on reducing its environmental impact while growing the business. This
scenario was influenced to increase the Unilever brand since most consumers
prioritize ethical and sustainable products. to reduce its environmental impact while
growing the business. (Unilever, 2023).
So,
employer branding plays a major role in recruitment that increases candidate
perceptions and engagement. With the development of a strong employer brand,
organizations can centralize the top talent with them, enhance employee
engagement, and reduce recruitment costs.
To
consider the effectiveness of the recruitment organizations should prioritize
their employer branding efforts. By doing so, the organization can create a
positive and strong work environment that attracts the best-talented employees within
them.
